Big city flavors meet small town charm at Savory September: New York, New York, a Big Apple-themed fundraiser for the arts.
Local chefs will serve small bites inspired by the flavors and traditions of New York City, from classic street food and deli fare to themed dishes from the city’s iconic neighborhoods and silver-screen moments. Expect nods to Little Italy, “Breakfast at Tiffany’s,” the corner bakery, and plenty of other New York favorites. Pair that with custom cocktails and live music by Marie Anderson, and you’ve got yourself a party worth hailing a cab for.

Caricatures 🖌
Local artist Mark Wright will bring a touch of New York flair to the event, creating caricatures of guests inspired by the iconic celebrity portraits displayed at Sardi’s, the legendary New York City institution.
Caricatures are $20 per portrait, plus $10 for each additional person included. Tickets for caricatures can be purchased during the event.

Guests can try their luck in a raffle featuring an exciting lineup of prizes, including:

Twelve artists explore collage and assemblage as a coping mechanism for collective concerns impacting our culture. From whimsical to macabre, these intimate works pack a hefty punch that belies their small scale.

Two interconnected series comprise this exhibition: expansive horizontal panels that evoke landscapes and distant horizons; and diptychs that examine the dynamic relationships between paired panels of color.

Virginia Museum of Fine Arts Senior Manager of Provenance Research Karen Daly provides a historical overview of art looting and the museum community’s response. She also reflects on how recovery and restitution efforts have evolved to the present day, including a discussion of the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts’ experiences resolving multiple art restitution claims.

Foster Gallery Reception

Robert Jospé Quartet

The Robert Jospé Quartet brings an exciting mix of instrumental jazz, rock, pop, and Latin styles to the Piedmont Arts galleries.
The group’s repertoire consists of original works, standards from the Great American Songbook, pop, and classic covers by Herbie Hancock, Antonio Carlos Jobim, Leonard Bernstein, and James Taylor, as well as works by well-known composers.
