Set sail on the high seas of fun at Ahoy, Mateys! Pirate Family Day.
This free, pirate-themed event features crafts with Heart to Art Creative Corner, games and snacks.
Pirates of the Piedmont will perform Celtic-inspired music that is fun for all ages. The upbeat jigs and reels of traditional Celtic music serve as inspiration for this band of rapscallions from Martinsville. They put a contemporary spin on traditional songs by incorporating rock and folk elements. Their performances are an exuberant celebration of Celtic music, encapsulating the spirit of the raucous sea shanties and soul-stirring ballads that have been passed down through the ages.
All ages are welcome. Admission is free. In the event of inclement weather, this event will be held at Piedmont Arts.

New exhibits opened with a reception and artist talk on Aug. 8
Thanks to everyone who joined the museum for the opening of its new exhibits, “What Memory Wears,” “In a Different Light” and “Eyes on the Wild” on Friday, Aug. 8.
Artists Barbara Hardy and Bob Ray, Russell Hart and Artemisia Blankenship discussed their work with a crowd of around 50 guests.
These exhibits will be on view through Oct. 11. Admission is free.
Piedmont Arts seeks input about its future for a long-range strategic plan
Piedmont Arts is seeking public input on its future and how it can have a positive impact on the community. The museum will use this feedback to create a new strategic plan that will guide its goals through the next five years.
Community members are asked to complete a public input survey about their experiences at Piedmont Arts and how the museum can shape these experiences in the future. The survey can be accessed on the museum’s website at the link below. It will remain open through Sept. 30.

What Memory Wears: Works by Barbara Hardy and Bob Ray
On view through Oct. 11, Piedmont Arts
Barbara Hardy and Bob Ray have been living and working together for more than 25 years. They are inspired by found objects, patterns and designs discovered in nature. Through their intimate, creative and artistic bond, they have created a diverse body of work full of rich textures and layered patterns.
In a Different Light: Photographs by Russell Hart
On view through Oct. 11, Piedmont Arts
Hart uses photography to explore the ways in which humans occupy and alter their environments and the landscape, but his photographs aren’t meant to be documentary or even realistic. “My work is based on observation,” Hart explains. “It doesn’t express a world view or share an intimate experience in the manner of so much contemporary art. It’s intended to show familiar things in a new way.”
Eyes on the Wild: Photography by Artemisia Blankenship
On view through Oct. 11, Piedmont Arts
Blankenship became passionate about photography while pursuing a career in fashion. Wildlife became one of her favorite subjects. She greatly enjoys photographing the animals she sees while taking long walks and views the images with a race of excitement, becoming truly lost in time discovering the magical beauty of every different species. She feels that the most meaningful way to capture the divine spirit and essence of wildlife and honor its existence on our planet is by sharing her images with others. Her favorite places to shoot are in the Florida Everglades, the coastal regions of North and South Carolina and the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia.

Savory September: Wild, Wild West
6:30 p.m., Friday, Sept. 26, Piedmont Arts
Get ready to boot scootin’ boogie at this Wild West-themed fundraiser for the arts.
Kick up your boot heels to live country and western music by Matt Boswell, sample themed dishes and custom cocktails prepared by local chefs and take part in the 50/50 raffle for a chance to win big.
Guests are invited to dress in Western flair. So, dust off your boots, throw on some fringe and saddle up in your favorite denim, bandanas and cowboy hats. It’s time to boogie!
Admission tickets are $50 per person and include food and drinks. Raffle tickets are $20 each or $100 for six.
Strategic Plan – Public Listening Session

Join moderators Natalie Hodge and Jennifer Reis for a public listening session about Piedmont Arts. Share your thoughts on the future of the museum and how it can positively impact the community.
Dr. Elliot Engel: The Mystery of Robert E. Lee
7 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 2, Piedmont Arts
Dr. Elliot Engel returns to Piedmont Arts with a light and enlightening literary lecture on Robert E. Lee. Using anecdotes, analysis and large doses of humor, Engel expertly reveals the man as a son, father, husband and unassuming general.
Guests are invited to attend a dinner with Dr. Engel before the program at 5:45 p.m. Reservations must be made in advance by purchasing tickets below. Tickets to the dinner and lecture are $50. The lecture will begin at 7 p.m. in the galleries. Tickets to the lecture alone are $25.
Exhibit Opening Reception

Join Piedmont Arts for an opening reception in honor of its new exhibits. A gallery talk will be held at 6:15 p.m. Complimentary refreshments will be served.
