Fans will be able to catch a first glimpse of the Mazda MX-5 Cup at Martinsville Speedway, as drivers test their open-top cars around the historic half mile track in advance of the highly anticipated Virginia is for Racing Lovers 300 doubleheader race weekend.
The test will take place on Monday, Aug. 26 from 2:00 – 8:30 p.m. and will be open for fans so they can get a taste of the sights and sounds of the Whelen Mazda Mx-5 Cup Series.
“We’re eager to see these cars race at Martinsville Speedway, and we want to show the fans what to expect so they can feel that excitement as well,” said Martinsville Speedway President lay Campbell. “The sound of the open-top cars echoing through the venue here is so unique, it won’t be like anything you’ve heard in previous races at Martinsville. We can’t wait for our community to join in experiencing this historic debut event with us.”
The Mazda MX-5 Cup Series previously tested at Martinsville Speedway last summer, with some well-known names within the series alongside some familiar faces within the world of NASCAR. This will be the first time since the 1950s that fans will witness open-top cars at Martinsville Speedway.
Parking will open for fans at 9:00 a.m. The first test session will take place from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. with the second test session running from 6:00 – 8:30 p.m. The test is free to all fans who wish to attend.
The Virginia is for Racing Lovers 300 will be a doubleheader event featuring the Whelen Mazda MX-5 Cup in a 100-lap race around the short track, immediately followed by the 200-lap finale of the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour Championship on Saturday, Oct. 26.
