PBS television show featuring Martinsville’s Smith River Singers

October 23, 2024

The Smith River Singers stars in a new episode of the television show BUZZ airing October 30 at 7 p.m. on Blue Ridge PBS.

All are invited to a free community Watch Party to enjoy a “sneak peek” of the episode on Thursday, October 24, at 6:30 p.m. at the New College Institute Baldwin Building.

“From just 23 singers in 2014 to more than 80 today, the Smith River Singers stands as one of the best community choirs in Virginia,” says BUZZ creator Michael Hemphill. “We enjoyed a magical time in Martinsville and Henry County filming this amazing all-volunteer ensemble as it celebrates its 10th birthday, and hope to provide the choir with much-deserved … buzz!”

In addition to the choir itself, other community members featured in the episode include the Harvest Foundation, Bassett High School, Piedmont, Move to Martinsville, and Uptown Partnership.

Launched in 2020, BUZZ features the great work that nonprofits do in our communities, and the marketing pros affiliated with the American Advertising Federation of Roanoke who donate their time and talent to help these life-giving organizations attract more donors, volunteers and clients to their cause.

In this episode, LeadPoint Digital in Roanoke created a new website for the Smith River Singers along with other pro bono marketing assets. The show reveals a “full circle moment” for LeadPoint Digital’s Sarah Wardle Jones, a Martinsville native whose mother was a founding member of the choir and father built its original website.

Thanks to a partnership with the National Educational and Telecommunications Association, BUZZ now airs on other public television stations across the U.S. including Chicago and California. More information about BUZZ, including its 52 previous episodes, can be found at buzz4good.com.
