655 Patriot Ave, Martinsville, VA 24112, USA Get Directions View WebsiteThe P&HCC Campus Trails offer visitors 3.5 miles of hiking trails that cover a variety of habitats from successional growth and planted pines, to riparian areas and mature hardwoods. You can hike the Beaver Creek Campus Trail in either direction, but it is recommended to plan your hike based on how far and how long you want to be on the trail. Consider using tick spray in the warmer months. Be respectful of wildlife and plants.
Accessible from the Frith building trailhead:
- The Beaver Creek Campus Trail is a 1.7 mile loop travelling through successional forest growth, a wetland area, the riparian zone along Beaver Creek, and around the edge of the open fields near Patriot Drive. The Bottom Trail, Tall Pines Bypass Trail, and the Arboretum Loop are only accessible from this trail. A short connector trail links this trail to the P&HCC Peninsula Loop Trail.
- The Bottom Trail and the Tall Pines Bypass Trail connect portions of the larger Beaver Creek Campus Trail. The Bottom Trail is a cut-through that creates a 0.6 mile loop. Follow this trail for a shorter route back to the trail entrance. The Tall Pines Bypass Trail will take you by the abandoned pump house and connect back to the Beaver Creek Campus Trail Loop in 0.2 miles.
- The Arboretum Loop Trail is 0.2 miles, showcasing a wide variety of plants and trees with placards indicating the species. Benches are located along this section of trail.
Accessible via the parking lot behind the West Hall:
- The P&HCC Peninsula Loop Trail follows the edge of Beaver Creek reservoir and is approximately 0.7 miles. This loop trail offers lake views, benches, and a picnic table. You can also take a middle trail along the ridge to its intersection with the loop trail at the tip of the peninsula.
