Rooting for the Same Hope Mural

Arts & Cultural

Just a few short strides from the Big Chair, the "Rooting for the Same Hope" mural embodies the diverse community and people of Martinsville-Henry County. Its background paints a seafoam sky while colorful bouquets of flowers and hands with bracelets echoing the sentiments of a hopeful community overlap with the city's name creating a dynamic visual. Spanning 300 feet along a retaining wall in the Bridge Street parking lot, this mural brings a delightful pop of color to Uptown Martinsville.

Roanoke-based artist Jonathan Murrill designed and painted this eye-catching artwork with the help of 40 local volunteers in 2023.

Piedmont Arts and Martinsville Uptown partnered to bring this mural to the city with funding from the Harvest Foundation's Project Hope Grant.
