Rives on the Road
Rives on the Road is a community nonprofit in Martinsville, Virginia, dedicated to preserving and remembering the historic heritage of the Rives Theatre by offering high-quality musical, educational and artistic programming at various locations throughout the Martinsville-Henry County area. This volunteer-run organization is devoted to transforming the Rives Theatre back into a live-music venue and a community space for arts and education after a devastating fire in the summer of 2019 resulted in a total loss of the venue.
The Rives Theatre was formed in 1932 as a playhouse, then later enjoyed more than seven decades of success as a first-run movie house. The movie theatre had then been transformed into a live music venue. There was a stage in front of the screen, room for 50+ on the dance floor and roughly 200 permanent seats.
