2015 Dick's Sporting Goods Southwest Virginia Lacrosse Tournament This Weekend

The Smith River Sports Complex (SRSC) will host the 2015 Dick's Sporting Goods Southwest Virginia Lacrosse Tournament this weekend, May 16-17.  On Saturday the tournament will begin at 8 a.m. with the last game starting at 5:45 p.m.  On Sunday the first games will start at 9 a.m. and the final game will play at 3 p.m.

This tournament will mark the first time that a lacrosse team from Martinsville will be playing in a tournament at home. The Southside River Sharks, a lacrosse club formed in 2014-2015, consists of nine to 14 year old boys from Martinsville and Danville. The SRSC serves as the home field and practice location for the River Sharks.

"It is amazing how much progress these young men have made in the last six months," said Kyle Trent, River Sharks head coach. "I am very proud of my River Sharks and they should be equally as proud of themselves and their teammates . The team is looking forward to the tournament in 'our house.'"

"What a thrill it is to have MHC's inaugural lacrosse team play in their first home tournament," said Billy Russo, SRSC Director of Operations. "These boys have all come a long way and continue to lay the ground work for the future development of the local club which we hope will continue to grow in the coming year."

Other teams that will be participating in the tournament come from areas in Virginia such as Franklin County, Lexington, Roanoke, Salem, Forest, Cave Spring High School and Hidden Valley High School.
