Bassett and Fieldale Areas Featured on Regional Television

VisitMartinsville recently worked with WSLS 10’s “Daytime Blue Ridge” to produce a promotional video as part of their "In a Day's Drive" series. The video series, sponsored by Virginia State Parks, promotes day trip ideas in Southwestern Virginia through a TV segment on “Daytime Blue Ridge” and a companion website.

In the video, host Natalie Faunce visited Philpott Lake where she enjoyed a scenic view of the lake from an overlook and took a kayak paddle trip to see the waterfall at Bowen's Creek. Faunce then visited the Bassett Historical Center where she interviewed Pat Ross, director of the center and learned about the research tools available to visitors there. Ross showed Faunce how to perform genealogical research and helped her find information about her great grandfather, a soldier in the revolutionary war.

For the culinary segment of the video, Faunce dined on the patio alongside the Smith River at Papa's Pizzeria in Bassett. She enjoyed a fresh salad while watching paddlers kayak and canoe on the river with Smith River Outfitters.  At the end of her day trip, she stopped at The Virginia Home Inn in Fieldale to tour the historic home and enjoy relaxing on the 80 foot-long front porch while admiring the beautiful gardens.
