Beth Stinnett Achieves Film Commissioner Certification

The Martinsville-Henry County Economic Development Corporation (EDC) is pleased to announce that Beth Stinnett, Tourism Assistant & Film Office Coordinator, was awarded a Film Commissioner Certification through the Association of Film Commissioners International (AFCI) in January 2016.

Stinnett, who has been with the EDC since 2011, earned the certification through attending an AFCI Cineposium in New York City in October 2014 and completing on-line training courses designed by AFCI. Classes included Film Commission Fundamentals, Film Commission Professional and a series of four Master Classes. By successfully completing and passing these courses and attending of the 2014 AFCI Cineposium, Stinnett earned the certification.

AFCI is a non-profit educational association whose members serve as city, county, state, regional, provincial, or national film commissioners in their respective governmental jurisdictions. “AFCI is the official professional organization for film commissions around the globe and the leading resource on the planet for location shooting,” said Kevin Clark, Executive Director of the AFCI. “Being a Certified Film Commissioner is the highest level of accomplishment for the profession and distinguishes our members as highly competent experts when servicing the production industry.” When production industry decision makers are looking for a location, the AFCI is their first stop. They want to rely on a local film commissioner who truly understands their needs and can make filming in the region a success.

The Martinsville-Henry County Film Office has been an AFCI certified film office since 2010; one of only three in the state of Virginia. The MHC Film Office works closely with AFCI, the Virginia Film Office and ReelScout to promote Martinsville-Henry County to filmmakers and production companies on a regional, national and global level.

Stinnett says, “I am thrilled for the potential opportunities that my certification presents to our Film Office and to the Martinsville-Henry County community. I look forward to a long-term partnership with AFCI and with my AFCI colleagues and hope to continuously learn from the association along the way.”
