Cardinal Cup Lacrosse Classic at the Smith River Sports Complex

June 25, 2013 Martinsville, VA: The Smith River Sports Complex (SRSC) is excited to host the Cardinal Cup Lacrosse Classic this coming weekend, June 29-30th. The Cardinal Cup Lacrosse Classic features 38 youth and high school boys teams.

Games are slated to begin at 9 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday. Saturday games will end at 8 p.m. and the final championship games will begin on Sunday at 4 p.m. It is an all-age tournament ranging from teams of U11, U13, U15, and high school levels. The tournament is a championship style format with the top 4 teams of each of division advancing to semi-final rounds on Sunday afternoon.

"We attended a small tournament at the Smith River Sports Complex about 3 years ago and loved it," said Kathy Goldsmith, Tournament Director of the Cardinal Cup Lacrosse Classic, when asked why ONS chose SRSC. "We told a few people about it that are involved with our ONS Lacrosse Foundation and last summer we held our first tournament here."

Players and their families will be traveling to Martinsville and Henry County from all over Virginia, North Carolina, and South Carolina. The event is put on by Old North State Lacrosse Foundation (ONS) out of Greensboro, North Carolina. This tournament expects to bring over 2500 people to the area.

"This year's Cardinal Cup Lacrosse Classic will be the largest sporting event of the summer out here at SRSC," said Director of Operations, Billy Russo. "We could not be more excited to have this event grow from last year with the number of teams and visitors to our area.  This is one of three events that the complex will be hosting with the ONS Foundation and we look forward to growing each event."
