December Discoveries: Rising Sun Breads

Today's guest blogger is Robin Campbell, Executive Administrator of the Phoenix Community Development Corporation and a participant of our recent FAM (familiarization) tour
of area businesses and attractions.  

What is the first thing you notice when you walk into a bakery? Of course, it is the wonderful smell of fresh baked breads and goodies. As part of the recent FAM tour with Martinsville-Henry County EDC's Tourism Division, we made a stop at Rising Sun Breads.

It was interesting to learn about this small business and how passionate Darla Main-Schneider, the owner, is about her business, her customers and her community. First of all, Rising Sun believes your visit to the bakery should be an experience. The experience includes finding things that you and your family will enjoy. She uses high-quality and fresh ingredients in her breads and desserts. She buys local whenever possible. Her goal is to offer products families will enjoy and make their lives easier. You can stop in, have lunch and pick up a prepared dinner for the evening.

As we visited the bakery, customers came in and were often greeted by name. Sometimes the staff already knew what they wanted to order. Darla strives to provide excellent customer service and pays attention to all details of her business. She values and appreciates her customers and goes above and beyond to make their visit an experience to remember.

Our community is fortunate to have this bakery in town. Darla works everyday to continue to grow her business. She invests in expanding her business and employing more people in the community. In addition, she partners with other small businesses by offering their products for sale at her business.  

If you have not ever been to Rising Sun Breads, make plans to visit soon. It will definitely be worth your time. Oh and by the way … she set out a big plate of goodies for our group to sample. Yum. Yum.
