The Smith River Sports Complex (SRSC) is excited to announce it will be hosting the 2016 Bassett Bengal Bash Soccer Jamboree this Saturday, March 12. The sixth annual event will bring 40 boys and girls varsity and junior varsity soccer teams to Martinsville.
"The Bengal Bash once again proves that the SRSC is a regional driver in the soccer and sporting event community," Billy Russo, SRSC Director of Operations, said. "We look forward to welcoming all of the athletes and their families to the largest Bengal Bash yet."
For most of the squads, it will be their first opportunity to take the field against other teams, which also means it will be the first chance local fans can see Piedmont District teams in action.
From the Piedmont District, Bassett, G.W. Danville, Magna Vista, Patrick County and Tunstall will be participating.
Games will kickoff at 9 a.m. and are scheduled to begin every 45-50 minutes. The final set of games will begin around 6:50 p.m. Due to the pre-season jamboree format, games will consist of just one half. Varsity matches will last 40 minutes, while junior varsity matches will be 35 minutes. Each team is scheduled to play at least three opponents throughout the course of the day.
Admission to the jamboree will be $6 for all attendees ages 5 and older.
