Saturday September 15, 2018
The Smith River Sports Complex (SRSC) is excited to announce that tickets are now on sale for the fourth annual Wine by the River Wine Festival to benefit the Matthew Wayne Wade Foundation on September 22, 2018. The event will run from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. and feature wine tasting, beer, live music as well as a chance to purchase goods from local food trucks and artisan vendors.
"We're really looking forward to our fourth annual wine festival," Lloyd Barber, executive director of SRSC, said. "The excitement in the community after last year's great event has made it a fun event to organize and we can't wait for September 22nd to get here as we expect to build off of last year's success and have the best festival yet!"
There will be an admission fee of $20 for persons 21 and older that would like to participate in the tastings and just $5 for designated drivers and persons under 21 years old. Tickets are now available for purchase at the Complex during regular business hours from 9 a.m. till 5 p.m., by calling 276-638-5200 ext. 6, or by visiting the Wine by the River page on www.SmithRiverSportsComplex.com. Any 21 and older tickets purchased prior to the event are only $15. The last day to receive the special $15 rate is Friday, September 21. Tickets will also be available the day of the event for full price.
Currently five different wineries have registered to attend and participate in this festival including: Hamlet Vineyards, The Homeplace Vineyard, Preston Ridge, West Wind Farm and White Rock Vineyards & Winery. The festival will take place by the scenic Smith River, which can be accessed by taking the Smith River Sports Complex River Access Road. Along with the variety of wine available, there will also be multiple options of beer provided by Blue Ridge Distributing.
Live music will be performed by the band Wag the Dawg, which plays music spanning from the 1960's right up to today's hit. The band features Pop, Rock, R & B, Country Rock and Country music so there will be something for everyone to enjoy while tasting their favorite wines from across the region.
Food trucks and craft vendors will also be on-site for guests to enjoy during the festival.
Part of the proceeds from the festival will go to the Matthew Wayne Wade foundation, a local nonprofit organization that focuses on promoting heart health. The purpose of the foundation, as stated by representatives of the Matthew Wayne Wade Foundation, is "to provide education and raise social consciousness about the importance of building and maintaining a healthy lifestyle."
The fourth annual Wine by the River Wine Festival is presented by American National Bank, Bowles Properties, Buck's Fuels, Harbour Garage & Towing, Martinsville - Henry County Chamber of Commerce, People's Save Station #9, PETAL LLC., Virginia Museum of Natural History and Visit Martinsville.
