Fayette Street Historic Initiative (FAHI) to Host Juneteenth Celebration

The Fayette Street Historic Initiative (FAHI) is excited to announce their upcoming celebration of Juneteenth, ‘Looking Back and Reaching Forward”. The community event will be held at Baldwin Park on June 17, 2023 from 11:00am - 4:00pm. Admission is free to everyone.

A detailed line-up of performances to celebrate African American culture will be announced soon, including an African dance group, family-friendly DJ, and more. King Kidz Rentals will provide bouncy houses for children. Local retail and food vendors will set up to sell merchandise and food on-site.

The Juneteenth celebration is sponsored by the Fayette Area Historical Society and its event partners – Carter Bank & Trust and Eastman Performance Films. This event will be held annually in recognition of Juneteenth as a national holiday.

DeShanta Hairston, Executive Director of the Fayette Area Historical Initiative, stated, “With Juneteenth now recognized as a holiday, it is vital to celebrate and educate others on its significance in history. The Juneteenth Jubilee creates a platform with the potential to cultivate a better understanding of African American history and culture, which fosters better relationships between groups with different backgrounds.”
