First Friday Art Walk Celebrates Cinco de Mayo

Cinco de Mayo Art Walk 

On May 2, First Friday Art Walk will celebrate Cinco de Mayo in Uptown Martinsville. Local business will open their doors from 5 - 7 pm or later for shopping, dining, Art Walk discounts and special events. Guests are encouraged to enjoy art, food and music along Martinsville's historic streets at this monthly event.

Special Events during First Friday Art Walk - Cinco de Mayo:

Piedmont Arts presents Maria in the Shower  

8 pm • Rives Theatre, 215 E. Church St.
Maria in the Shower's mix of Tin Pan Alley ditties, Cuban shuffles, hollow hills spirituals, roots and rockabilly is readymade for live performance. Part Vaudeville show, part cabaret, part punk and part folk, Maria provides an evening of eclectic music you won't soon forget. Tickets on sale at Piedmont Arts or online at www.piedmontarts.org through 12 pm on May 2. Tickets may be purchased at the Rives Theatre box office on May 2 beginning at 7 pm.

First Fridays Painting + Pinot

Bring your enthusiasm, some friends and your beverage of choice for Piedmont Arts' First Fridays Painting + Pinot. Explore your creative side in a casual studio environment, while instructor Pepper Martin guides you through creating your own masterpiece. This month's painting is Beach Scene. Ages 21+. Studio 107 invites guests to enjoy Cinco de Mayo themed refreshments, including virgin margaritas. Artists will also offer discounts on select works, including:

Behind-The-Scenes Workshop

Go behind the scenes of Martinsville's community theatre to learn just what it takes to be a TWCP volunteer.

New Work + Discounts on Handmade Items

5 - 7 pm • The Artisan Center, 54 W. Church St.
The Artisan Center is showcasing new work by juried artisans. Plus, the markdown table is full of hand-crafted items at discount prices. Find scarves, jewelry, glass, aprons, pillows and more.

Song Writers Showcase

7:30 - 8:30 pm • Daily Grind Coffee House & Cafe, 303 E. Church St.
Join Daily Grind for Song Writers Showcase, an open mic for original music hosted by Dean Smith of Woodall's Music and Sound. No cover. All ages welcome. Each showcase also features a 10 - 15 minute talk by a local artist whose work will be on display.
