The Martinsville-Henry County Historical Society will host its monthly Sunday Afternoon Lecture, “A Disappeared Creek: The Stories of Jack Fountain’s Spring Branch,” on Sunday, June 18, 2023, 3:00 P. M., at the Historic Henry County Courthouse.

Truman Adkins, Historian & Genealogist, will share his research on a stream that runs under The Village of Martinsville (Liberty Fair Mall). It bears the name of a freedman who Adkins believes was the first African American to purchase real estate in Henry County. His presentation will also include the Lester Airport, the Fair, and Liberty Fair Mall and how the land changed from a hollow to what it is today.

Admission to the Sunday Afternoon Lecture series is free, made possible by corporate sponsors, Carter Bank & Trust and The Lester Group. The Historic Henry County Courthouse is fully handicap accessible. The Martinsville-Henry County Heritage Center & Museum will be open following the presentation.

John Phillips, Historical Society President, stated, “This month’s lecture is a great opportunity for all of us to learn about something that little is known.”
