Martinsville Uptown Welcomes Stone Canyon

Martinsville Uptown Revitalization Association welcomes Roanoke based band, Stone Canyon, to perform during their 2013 TGIF Concert Series on Friday, August 23rd. Stone Canyon includes a former Henry County resident, Mike Whitlow, who grew up in Ridgeway, as well as Jimmy Stone, formerly of the band 58 West.

A contemporary band, Stone Canyon pulls their influences from such greats as Eagles, Crosby, Still & Nash, and the Doobie Brothers. Their trademarks are a mixture of great vocal harmonies and outstanding musicianship. They perform both original songs as well as former favorites that are upbeat, positive, and enjoyable to any audience. Stone Canyon is made up of Jeff Snyder (lead guitar, pedal steel, mandolin and vocals), Mike Whitlow (guitar, percussion, and vocals), Ken Nicely (keyboard and vocals), Randy Hurt (keyboard and vocals), Jimmy Stone (bass guitar), and David Hassenpflug (drum & percussion).

The event is hosted by Martinsville Uptown and will be held at the Uptown Farmers' Market from 7:00 to 10:30 pm. Admission to the concert is $5 at the gate or advance tickets are $3 at local BB&T locations. Children 12 and under, that are accompanied by an adult, will be admitted free. Please no pets, skateboards, skates, or bikes allowed due to insurance liability. Bring your blankets and/or lawn chairs and come out for an evening of great music in Uptown.

Local sponsors of the TGIF concerts make it possible for Martinsville Uptown to continue this popular event for the community. The Season sponsors are Coors Light, Devils Backbone, Collinsville Printing Co, Subway, and ShopLocalMHC.com . The event sponsors for August are S&K Office Products, Ford Insurance Agency, and Hooker Furniture. The food sponsor will be Rock'n Grill and will be serving hotdogs, hamburgers, and more. Make sure to come hungry and thirsty! There is also a jumpy castle provided as entertainment for the kids provided by King Kidz Fun Rentals! After the show, keep your admission wristband on and head over to Wild Magnolia where you can receive $2 off any regular menu item.

Martinsville Uptown coordinates the outdoor concerts to supplement their funding for the organization's revitalization efforts for Uptown Martinsville. The event began in 1994 as a way to bring more people to Uptown. If you are looking for a place that the whole family can have a great time, then the Uptown Farmers' Market is the place one Friday night from April to September.
