Music is BACK!

If you’ve missed concerts, festivals, and live music, you aren’t’ alone and we have good news! Late summer and fall are chocked full of opportunities to catch a concert, attend a music festival, and hit the dance floor.

Make plans to enjoy the following events:

Uptown First Fridays: Held on the courthouse square of the Martinsville-Henry County Heritage Center & Museum, this monthly event offers music, art, performances, and more! Open Mic is hosted Kat and Dennis Calfee and anyone is welcome to join in and showcase their talent or just sit, listen, and enjoy the show! Bring a blanket or a lawn chair. Bring an instrument you play or a poem you wrote or a stand-up routine you've been dying to try out in front of an eager audience. Bring some cash for the bar. August 6th, September 3rd, October 1st. Admission is free.

Music Night at Spencer Penn Centre: The Spencer Penn Centre invites everyone out on August 20th for Music Night featuring Timbre Trail; hitting the sate at 6:15. Doors open at 5 p.m. with music starting at 5:30 p.m. Admission is $5.

TGIF Concerts: This 25+ year tradition reeved back up this year and you still have the opportunity to catch two TGIF concerts: Spare Change on August 20th and The Worxx on September 17th. Gates open at 6:00 p.m. and show begins at 7:00 p.m. Wine, beer, seltzer, and non-alcoholic beverages will be served, and food will be provided by Hugo's Uptown Restaurant. Admission is $7.

Smith River Fest: The Glen Shelton Band will perform at the annual Smith River Fest on August 21st: he has written, recorded, and released songs to national radio that charted on Country and Christian Country charts (including two #2 songs), worked with over 40 well-known national acts, been endorsed my multiple national acts, and has performed at hundreds of events. 1:15 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Before that, DJ What? will be entertaining us throughout the morning with familiar, family favorite jams! Admission to the festival and music are free.

Uptown Music Fest: 2021 will be the inaugural year for the Matthew Wad Foundation’s Uptown Music Fest at the Virginia Museum of Natural History. The music starts at 7:00 p.m. on August 21st with Chairmen of the Board featuring Ken Knox, followed by The McFly’s. Admission is $7.

Appalachian Vibes Music Festival at Mountain Valley Brewing: The music festival will be an opportunity to challenge the expectations and highlight the diversity of music throughout the Appalachian Region. This two-and-a-half-day event, September 3rd – 5th, will offer a diverse lineup to offer sounds for every audience. Camping is available. Admission ranges from $30 - $85. 

Concerts at the Henry County Fair: The Andy Burnette Trio with special guest Jake Earles on September 22nd, Plastic Musik on the 23rd, and Josh Shilling and Mountain Heart on the 24th. Gate admission is $5 and the concerts are included.

Blues, Brews and Stews: at Enjoy food, drinks and live music in the Art Garden on October 1st. T.C. Carter Band will perform a blend of blues, country and rock. Meal includes classic Brunswick stew or a vegetarian option, cornbread and water or tea for $5 per meal. Bring a lawn chair or blanket for seating. Admission is $20.

Festive music at Oktoberfest: Emerge yourself in German culture as you enjoy the sounds of bagpipes and tunes from German bands on October 2nd! Admission is free.

Rooster Walk Reunion: Rooster Walk Reunion, an amazing, intimate, limited-capacity festival Oct. 8-10, 2021 at Pop’s Farm that will feature a full lineup of Rooster Walk festival alumni bands, plus all your friends and family. Rooster Walk Reunion is a 3-day festival in the rolling foothills of the Blue Ridge celebrating music, art, and the great outdoors at the idyllic Pop’s Farm venue. With approximately 30 bands performing on 5 different stages, an eclectic roster of great music guides the Rooster Walk experience. In addition to 3 days of amazing tunes, the family-friendly Rooster Walk will offer a wide variety of kids’ activities, craft beer, great food, arts and numerous opportunities to enjoy Virginia’s great outdoors. Admission is $125 & up.

Wine by the River Festival music: Martin and Kelly, the Jeff Anderson Band, George Hodges, and Julie Bruce are all schedule to perform while you enjoy an afternoon of sipping a variety of delicious wines during the festival. October 23rd 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Admission is $15.
