Rockapella Brings Motown & More to Piedmont Arts On Stage

Rockapella, masters of a cappella sound, make their Piedmont Arts On Stage debut with Motown & More, a tribute to the music of Motown with unique versions of hit songs.

This awe-inspiring quintet of vocal talent lands at Martinsville High School Auditorium on Thursday, April 25 at 7 pm with new songs, new staging and new surprises in store for the audience.

In addition to Rockapella favorites, Motown & More will include songs like "My Girl," "Ain't Too Proud To Beg" and "Papa Was A Rollin' Stone," along with other Motown classics.

Scott Leonard, the group's chief songwriter, arranger and architect of their evolving dynamic sound says, "When I was a little kid, little Michael's voice or little Stevie's voice was what I wanted to sound like." Now he gets to repay that debt on stage for an emerging generation of Motown lovers.

Rockapella's astounding full-band sound comes from five guys with microphones; no instruments, no tracks, no mirrors.

"We're making every bit as much music as the whole ‘Glee' chorus, but with only 5 guys," says Rockapella's human beatbox Jeff Thacher.

Known for their astonishing live performances and their 5-year stint as the house band on the PBS hit kids game show, "Where In The World Is Carmen Sandiego?," Rockapella delivers a breathtaking show that you won't want to miss.

USA Today summed up the group's lasting appeal like this, "The best musical instrument of all is the human voice. If you've seen Rockapella, you know that's the truth."
