PYSL Announces New Director of Goalkeeper Training Sessions

The Piedmont Youth Soccer League (PYSL) is proud to announce the hiring of Rod Baker as the new Director of Goalkeeping. Baker is the current men's assistant soccer coach at Ferrum College and the former director of goalkeeping at Valley Arsenal Football Club in Roanoke."This is a great hire for us," said PYSL Director of Coaching Enda Crehan. "Rod is a super coach and has proved that over the
years with Valley AFC and Ferrum College. This is another great add to our soccer club and I look forward to seeing all our budding
goalkeepers out learning from Coach Baker."

Along with the hiring of Baker, PYSL will also be offering an eight week goalkeeping training course on Monday nights March 2 through April 20. For ages 9-12, training will be held from 6-7 p.m., for ages 13 and up, training will be held from 7-8 p.m.

The training is open to current PYSL soccer players for free, and non-PYSL soccer players will be $70. Registration is available by contacting Smith River Sports Complex Director of Programs Brittney Harrison at 276.638.5200, ext. 1 or bharrison@smithriversportscomplex.com. This will be an opportunity for goalkeeper instruction from an experienced college goalkeeper trainer and former player. The goalkeepers will be challenged in a competitive environment where they will be given individual attention on the position and they will learn and refine new techniques.
