Rooster Walk 6 Band Lineup Part 5

The Rooster Walk Music and Arts Festival is a charity fundraiser that takes place every Memorial Day weekend (late May) at Blue Mountain Festival Grounds just outside of Martinsville. The festival, which features on-site camping, as well as arts, crafts, food and more, donates its proceeds to the Penn-Shank Memorial Scholarship at Martinsville High School.

Enjoy live music and the great outdoors at Rooster Walk 6! Outdoor, primitive camping is available during the four day festival. There are two camping areas at Rooster Walk: The VIP Campground and the General Admission (GA) Campground. If you purchase a VIP ticket, you receive free camping in the VIP Campground. If you buy a GA ticket, you will need to purchase a separate GA Camping Pass ($40).

Each week, we will be featuring different bands that will be performing at Rooster Walk 6. This is part 5 in the blog series. Read the other sections: part 1 | part 2 | part 3 | part 4.

Here are some of the awesome bands that you can enjoy at Rooster Walk 6!

The Infamous Stringdusters

The Infamous Stringdusters

The Infamous Stringdusters consist of Andy Falco (guitar), Travis Book (bass), Jeremy Garrett (fiddle), Andy Hall (dobro), and Chris Pandolfi (banjo). They sound like no one else, combining virtuosic chops on five traditional bluegrass instruments, with an ethos of pushing the genre forward. The Stringdusters‘ live shows take improvised string band music to new places, combining musicianship and songwriting with experimental performance and a contagious energy flowing between the band and crowd. Their groundbreaking musical proficiency is earning them critical acclaim, awards, and nominations aplenty; and has even attracted the attention of musical legends Phil Lesh and John Scofield, who have joined The ‘Dusters on stage to offer up unforgettable, raucously crowd-pleasing sit-ins.

Jon Stickley Trio

Jon Stickley Trio

Jon Stickley Trio plays a style of music that defies description. Jon's guitar style has evolved from bluegrass flat-picking into his own sound that spans from soft harmonic chimes to straight-up shredding. The band features Lyndsay Pruett (Futureman) on violin, who conjures up bewildering sounds reminiscent of Stephane Grappelli, yet not unlike the modern dubstep of Lindsey Stirling. On percussion, Patrick Armitage (Atmosphere) brings the heat with a hiphop groove that is unstoppable. The band comes together to create their own sound that can get big enough to shake the walls or intimate enough to draw tears. Don't miss this mind-blowing musical experience.

Big Fat Gap

Big Fat Gap

Big Fat Gap is a back porch bluegrass band that has no plans to take Nashville by storm. Some of them even have day jobs. They just like to pick, they like each other, and it shows in their performances, which are known to be excellent for those who enjoy sweet three-part harmonies, smoking solos, and captivating stage dynamics.

Bootstrap Slick

Bootstrap Slick

Bootstrap Slick is a duo out of Boone, NC, that incorporates elements of jazz, bluegrass, folk, and gypsy jazz into their music. The duo consists of Seth Jarrett on mandolin and Hayes Cummings on guitar. Seth Jarrett is originally from Martinsville but now attends Appalachian State University where he met Hayes Cummings, from Burlington, NC, who is a classical guitar performance major at Appalachian State. Together they are broadening their range of music and incorporating different styles which come together in Bootstrap Slick.
