Shred-A-Thon Coming to Martinsville Speedway

Race cars are destroyed on a regular basis at Martinsville Speedway, but Monday will mark the first day of planned destruction in the track’s infield.

Martinsville Speedway is partnering with WSLS Channel 10 from Roanoke for public Shred-A-Thon.  The event will run from 6 a.m. until 2 p.m.

The free event is open to anyone that has personal or business documents they need shredded by a professional shredder. Kodiak Shredding of Lynchburg will have a truck in the infield to collect and shred all of the documents.

WSLS and Martinsville Speedway are conducting the Shred-A-Thon as a public service to help combat identity theft, which has become such a problem nationwide. It is also an environmentally-sound project, with all the shredded paper recycled and used to manufacture other paper products.

In previous Shred-A-Thons this spring, WSLS has helped collect, shred and recycle over 245,000 pounds of paper.
