TheatreWorks Presents a One-Act Play Festival

Ready to see your name in LIGHTS? Well, maybe save on your bus ticket to Broadway for now, and get your feet wet by writing, producing, and (maybe) starring in your very own original one-act play!

TheatreWorks Community Players in Uptown Martinsville has announced an upcoming One-Act Play Festival set for Spring 2024. They’re inviting playwright enthusiasts to submit an original concept in the form of a one-act play to be performed during the festival.

Here are the details:

• 3 plays selected - $100 prize for each winner
• Original (in its entirety) one-act play by one playwright (no collaborations or adaptations)
• Play must be unpublished and unproduced
• One submission per person
• PG rating (no obscenity)
• 30 minutes max. run time
• Single scene, minimal stage set
• Provide own props/costumes or use available from BlackBox supplies
• 5 min. setup/take down between plays
• Playwrights are encouraged to serve as director of own work (directing support available)
• Send submissions (.PDF format) to twcpproduction@gmail.com, include name and contact information
• Scripts should be in standard format (such as Dramatists Guide Modern Stage Play)
• Text should be in 12 pt. type in standard font (such as New Times Roman)
• Script should include page numbers at bottom
• Playwright’s name must not appear anywhere in the script
• Do not include resumes, playwright’s biographies or history of the play
• Please include page with character breakdowns (age, gender, etc.)
• All submissions reviewed and winners selected by “blind” panel (identifying information removed)

Deadlines/Dates:

• October 1, 2023 – submissions due
• December 1, 2023 – winners announced
• January 20, 2024 – auditions for actors
• March 1, 2, 3, 2024 – Show date (performances)
