Virginia Wine Month in MHC
October is Virginia Wine Month and it’s the perfect time to plan your next visit to Hamlet Vineyards in Bassett, VA. Hamlet Vineyards is a Virginia vineyard by Virginia natives with an old Virginia house and a farmhand named Virginia!
Family owned and operated, with a deep connection to Martinsville-Henry County, Butch & Virginia Hamlet began Hamlet Vineyards in 2010. The property features 3,500 grapevines among rolling hills and a Tasting Terrace. Their historic home, called Eltham Manor, is listed among the National Register of Historic Places as well as the Virginia Landmarks Register.
Not only are the owners and their property amazing, but so are the wines. Hamlet Vineyards has produced numerous award-winning wines through the years including:
· the 2018 Petit Verdot | 2021 Virginia Governors Cup Silver Medal Winner.
· 2021 Viognier | Gold Medal Winner at the Atlantic Seaboard Wine Competition and a Silver Medal Winner at the Virginia Governor's Cup
· 2019 Eltham | Gold Medal Winner at the 2022 Virginia Governor's Cup

Hamlet Vineyards is open every Sunday afternoon from 1:00 to 5:00 for wine tastings and lunch. Be sure to follow them on Facebook to see what’s on the menu and for announcements on upcoming events at the vineyard. If you can’t make on a Sunday, you can plan to visit Hamlet Kitchen, Monday through Friday, and grab a bottle of your favorite wine and a chef-prepared meal to go!
Oh, and we haven’t even mentioned the Wine by the River Festival happening on October 22nd at the Monogram Foods Smith River Sports Complex! You heard that right, there’s an official wine celebration to correlate with the special month. Mark your calendars and grab your tickets here!
