Walker Shank Memorial Golf Tournament

The fourth annual Walker Shank Memorial Golf tournament will take place Saturday, April 20, at Chatmoss Country Club in Martinsville.

Hamlet Vineyards will serve as the title sponsor of this four-man, captain's choice tournament. It will feature a staggered tee time beginning at noon. The cost to play is $70 per golfer or $240 per team.

Walker Shank was a graduate of Martinsville High School's class of 2000 and a four-year member of the MHS varsity golf team. He attended the University of Virginia and graduated with a degree in economics.

Proceeds from the event go to the Penn-Shank Memorial Scholarship Fund at MHS. The tournament is organized by Rooster Walk Inc., a community nonprofit dedicated to bringing music, arts, entertainment and culture to the Martinsville area. In four years, Rooster Walk Inc. has donated a total of more than $35,000 to charities such as the Penn-Shank Memorial Scholarship Fund, the Virginia Wounded Warrior program and the Boy Scouts of America, among others.

The Rooster Walk Music & Arts Festival is set for May 23-26 at Blue Mountain Festival Grounds near Martinsville. The festival, sponsored by Bassett Furniture, will be headlined by Leftover Salmon and Ivan Neville's Dumpstaphunk. More than 30 bands will play at the festival, which will also feature arts, crafts and food vendors. The second annual Tuff Strutter 5K footrace, put on through a partnership with Activate and the YMCA, will take place at the festival on May 26.
