Why Go to the Game

Imagine you are a student athlete finishing up an Associate's Degree in Junior College. Your team has made it through the season undefeated and is on the way to the DI Soccer National Championships. This is the most significant sporting event IN YOUR LIFE.

Now, imagine that you are from the mid-west and the expense of a flight and multiple days of lodging on the east coast are not feasible for your family. You'll have to go play on your own, on the other side of the nation, without a personal support network. You know how good it feels to hear your mom, dad and friends cheering in the stands, and you wonder what it will be like without hearing those friendly voices.

This is the reality of many college athletes and it shouldn't be. If you are in town on November 16 - 21, plan to come out to the NJCAA DI Men's Soccer National Championships at the Smith River Sports Complex and help cheer on the teams. You don't have to know anything about the teams or soccer to make a student athlete feel good. Blue, green, or maroon - just pick a team and cheer for them.

Sporting events at the Smith River Sports Complex bring a significant economic impact to the area. Teams stay in hotels, buy fuel, eat out in restaurants, shop and explore area attractions while here. It also helps us to recruit additional events to the community when tournament organizers see packed stands and the support of local citizens.

The NJCAA National Championship is the largest sporting event hosted by our community, second only to NASCAR racing. Patrick Henry Community College, the Smith River Sports Complex, and the EDC's Tourism Division are proud to bring this high-quality event to Martinsville-Henry County and hope that residents will come out to the games in support.

Tickets to the tournament are reasonably priced. A full week tournament pass can be purchased for $40 or you can pay $10 for individual day tickets.
