20th Annual Martinsville Speedway Christmas Toy Drive Raises More Than $10,000

The 20th Annual Martinsville Speedway Christmas Toy Drive raised a little more than $10,000 for the Grace Network of Martinsville and Henry County to provide some Christmas joy to the faces of underprivileged and underserved children in the area.

People came from far and wide to drive their cars on the track Saturday in exchange for a new, unwrapped toy or $10 donation. For those seeking the full NASCAR Experience, Martinsville Speedway President Clay Campbell would take them around the track in a two-seater stock car for $50.

“I think this shows how much our community cares about each other,” Campbell said. “As a track, we are just the vehicle that folks can use to help each other out this time of year. I think when people know the money is going to help kids at Christmas, they are more than happy to join the cause.”

With the donations from the Christmas Toy Drive, the Grace Network will be able to serve more than 200 area children this holiday season.

“Once again, 2016 proves to show how generous this community continues to be to those in need,” Tracy Hinchcliff, the Executive Director of the Grace Network said. “Grace Network partnering with Martinsville Speedway and our many partnering churches celebrated another successful toy drive to help the kiddos in our area that otherwise might have had a dim Christmas.”

The Grace Network is a network of more than 200 churches located in and around the Martinsville and Henry area.

“We are so honored here at Grace to be part of this event and we thank the Speedway for their effort with this wonderful tradition,” Hinchcliff said. “This year we will be able to help 216 children with toys under the tree! God continues to work through this wonderful organization in ways that impact many lives and we are so proud to be a part of it.”
