August Has Arrived at the Smith River Sports Complex

2015 Wine by the River Wine Festival

The Smith River Sports Complex (SRSC) will host the Wine by the River Wine Festival on Saturday, September 19th 2015. The event will be held rain or shine from 12:00 Noon to 6:00PM and will have local food vendors, artisans, crafters, live music, wine from 7 wineries: Brooks Mill, DeVault, Hamlet, Foggy Ridge, Stanburn, West Wind, and Preston Ridge.

Tickets can be purchased at the Smith River Sports Complex, or will also be available at our website www.srscwine.com. Tickets will also be available on site at the festival! The fee for admission is $25.00 for persons 21 years or older and $10.00 for designated drivers and persons under the age of 21.

A portion of the proceeds from the festival will be given to the Matthew Wayne Wade Foundation, a local 501(c)(3) non-profit organization which promotes heart health. Blood, Sweat, and Ears Corn Hole Tournament

Next Saturday, August 22, we will be holding our final tournament in the Blood, Sweat, and Ears Cornhole Tournament Series! Registration will last from 4:00 pm - 4:30 pm.

Immediately following this tournament will be our championship tournament, which includes any first, second, or third place finishers from each division in our previous tournaments. All teams will be throwing from the same distance. These teams will be competing for a $500 first place prize, a $200 second place prize, and a $50 third place prize.

Remember there will be FREE spectator admission, a FREE kids fun zone by King Kidz Fun Rentals, and food available for purchase by Chick-fil-A and Mi Ranchito.

  

PYSL Opening Weekend

We are closing in on the opening weekend of the 2015 Piedmont Youth Soccer League (PYSL) Fall season. The season will begin on September 12th, both recreation and travel leagues.

If you haven't had the chance to register your child, you still have a few days remaining because the registration deadline for the 2015 Fall PYSL Recreation League has been extended until to Friday, August 14th! This will be the last time that we extend the registration so please try to sign up by this Friday!

PHCC Soccer Opening Weekend

The Patrick Henry Community College Men's and Women's soccer teams will be adding another chapter to their book as their opening weekends approach.

The men will begin their season with a conference home opener against Wake Tech on August 26 beginning at 8:30 pm, here at the Smith River Sports Complex. Ranked in the NJCAA preseason polls the men look to make the national tournament this year, which will be hosted at the Smith River Sports Complex.

The women will also open up their season with a home game. They will be playing Hollins University on August 25th at 7:30 pm, also at the Smith River Sports Complex.

 

Free Youth Lacrosse Clinics to Begin

The Smith River Sports Complex (SRSC), along with Dan Daniel Memorial Park (DDMP) in Danville, VA will be hosting Free Youth Lacrosse Clinics.

Coaches from the new Southside Lacrosse Club, accompanied by coaches from Greensboro will be on hand to instruct girls and boys the basics of the sport. There will also be information on hand on how to get involved in the league and the plans for the future. The clinics are open for boys and girls ages 7-18. Equipment will be provided.

The dates and times of these clinics are:

SRSC: Monday, August 24 & Thursday, August 27 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm

DDMP: Monday, August 17 & Thursday, August 20 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm

Upcoming Volunteer Opportunities

As we approach another busy fall season filled with soccer, frisbee, lacrosse, and many other sports, we will need the help of volunteers. Duties can range from helping in the concessions stands to taking pictures of all the action going on throughout our complex.
