“Collecting Prints” at Piedmont Arts

“Collecting Prints” Brings Warhol, Lichtenstein, Rauschenberg and More to Piedmont Arts

Featuring original prints selected from the contemporary art collection of                                                                                           James W. HyamsPiedmont Arts, “Collecting Prints” features 61 prints by 47 artists, including Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein, Damien Hirst, Robert Cottingham, Chuck Close, Robert Rauschenberg and more.

“Collecting Prints” not only features original prints by famous artists, but attempts to answer common questions about print collecting, including: What is a collectable print?; Why should I consider buying a print?; and what do I need to know before spending my money?

“This exhibit is unique because it not only offers the chance to see original prints by famous artists,” said Director of Exhibitions Heidi Pinkston. “But, it also provides a step-by-step process for those interested in learning more about collecting art prints.”

Throughout this exhibit, guests will be able to see the many characteristics of a collectable print and will learn what to look for when making a purchase.

"Most artists enjoy printmaking and it is an important part of their artistic output,” said collector James Hyams. "Creating an original work using printmaking techniques allows the artist to express his or her vision in a new and different way. This exhibit attempts to answer common questions about print collecting that I have been asked over the years. I hope guests will enjoy learning about this fascinating area of collecting.”

Works by members of The Henry County Pro-Am Photography Club will also be on display in Piedmont Arts’ Lynwood Artists Gallery. The mission of The Henry County Pro-Am Photography Club is to promote the enjoyment of photography to the hobbyist, artist and professional, by the sharing of knowledge, experience and ideas among its members. Each month members gather at the Henry County Administration building to share ideas, gather information and admire each other's photography from the past month.

“Collecting Prints: Selections from the Collection of James W. Hyams” and “The Henry County Pro-Am Photography Club” will be on display March 19 – April 30 at Piedmont Arts.

Piedmont Arts exhibits are always admission free. Museum hours are Tuesday – Friday: 10 am – 5 pm and Saturday: 10 am – 3 pm. For more information, visit PiedmontArts.org.
