East Carolina & Maryland Advance in NCBA Mid-Atlantic Championship

 

The three-day double elimination tournament for the National Club Baseball Association’s (NCBA) Mid-Atlantic Championship has been an opportunity to introduce new visitors to Martinsville-Henry County and the surrounding area.

Fans coming to support the teams drove in from Ohio, New York, New Jersey, Delaware, Pennsylvania, Maryland, North Carolina and Virginia. Throughout the weekend, the visitors have enjoyed shopping and dining while in the community. Checkered Pig BBQ and Yamato’s were among the favorites of fans from Ohio University.

On Saturday, the day began with the University of Maryland beating Ohio University 7-2. East Carolina University beat James Madison University (JMU) 12-2. The final game of the afternoon concluded with Maryland beating JMU 10-4.

The NCBA Mid-Atlantic championship will continue on Sunday at 9 a.m. when East Carolina University and Maryland take the field.  If needed, another game will be played at 12 p.m. The winner of the tournament will move on to the NCBA Mid-Atlantic World Series.

Admission Sunday is $5 and children five and under are free with a paying adult. The Martinsville Community Recreation Association will sell concessions and all proceeds from ticket sales and concessions will benefit Hooker Field.
