Family Concert at Rives

Eclectic folk/rock duo Trout Fishing in America will bring their infectious brand of family music to the Rives Theatre on Oct. 18.

Presented in partnership by Piedmont Arts and Arts at the Rives Theatre, Trout Fishing in America's concert will feature some of the group's best-known kids songs, like "My Hair Had a Party Last Night," "18 Wheels on a Big Rig" and "When I Was a Dinosaur."

But Trout Fishing in America isn't just fun for kids. Over the past 34 years the duo, made up of bass player/singer Keith Grimwood and guitarist/singer Ezra Idlet, has built a loyal following that spans five generations. The group has also released two albums aimed at adults: 2010's "Lookin' At Lucky" and 1999's "Closer to the Truth."

"Those kids we first played for grew up and had kids, and now they bring their kids [to our concerts]," says Grimwood.

It's Trout Fishing in America's willingness to make fun of our most annoying and sometimes disgusting habits in one song, then touch our hearts with tender and passionate images of family life in the next, that has earned the duo a place in the hearts of kids and parents everywhere.

Popcorn and concessions will be available for purchase during the performance.
