Little Free Libraries in Martinsville - Henry County

In celebration of National Read Across America Day, get out and grab a book at one of Martinsville - Henry County's "Little Free Libraries."

Tucked away in cozy corners of the community, these outdoor libraries offer visitors a comfortable place to sit and read a book or to pick up a new favorite and leave one in return.

In 2015, Henry County Parks and Recreation partnered with Boy Scout Troop 168 and Scout Zachary Margrave on his Eagle Scout Project to install four of these "Little Free Libraries" at area parks. Since then, the project has expanded to include more free libraries throughout the community.

The mission of the Little Free Library Project is to promote literacy and the love of reading. This idea was started in 2009 in Wisconsin by Todd H. Bol, and there are now over 100,000 Little Free Libraries Worldwide.

People are encouraged to take a book from one of these libraries and enjoy it while at the park or take it home with them and replace with other books.
