Martinsville-Henry County Is Paw-some

Dogs. They truly are mans’ best friend and Martinsville - Henry County wants to make it easy for you to enjoy an adventure you won't soon forget. Whether you are looking for a place to take a stroll, a swimming hole for your pooch, or simply ways to hang out together, we’ve got you covered. 

Take your pal for a walk along the Smith River Trail System. Did you know that there is a special trail in Henry county specially designed for our four-legged friends? It’s called the Paw Path and is located along the Smith River at the Monogram Foods Smith River Sports Complex. Doggies will be thrilled with the balance beam and fire hydrant they encounter along their path. They may even stop to read; like Nellie, you see in the photo!

The Henry County Dog Park is the perfect spot to let your dog get some exercise off-leash. The park has separate sections and entrances for big and small dogs. Both sides have play structures for the dogs and shade area.  There is also a doggie water fountain available.

Philpott Lake and the Smith River offer a chance for your pooch to cool down after tackling the surrounding trails or casting your rod, or for when your pup just wants to be on the water! It’s not uncommon to see pooches in or on boats in the waters of MHC. The word must be out!

Sometimes you just want to have a drink and chill with friends, and if your pooch is your favorite sidekick, they are invited to join you at Mountain Valley Brewing & Hamlet Vineyards. * Mountain Valley Brewing, the area’s first craft beer brewery, is open Thursday through Sunday. Hamlet Vineyards is open every Sunday afternoon from 1-5 for Wine Tastings. *

The annual Smith River Fest outdoor recreation festival, held at the Monogram Foods Smith River Sports Complex, also welcomes your four-legged friends to join you. *Save the date for 2023’s event!!

This antiques and collectibles shop is run by SPCA of Martinsville-Henry County board members and volunteers.
