Martinsville Speedway To Host First Party In The Plaza August 22

Martinsville Speedway will come alive August 22, not with the rumble of race cars, but with the great sounds of music and fun as the track hosts its first Party In The Plaza.

Set in The Plaza, a new addition to the track, the evening will include a rocking good band, great food, including the Famous Martinsville Speedway Hot Dog®, and cold beverages.

Sponsored by the Martinsville-Henry County Chamber of Commerce, the inaugural Party In The Plaza will kick off at 6 p.m. on Friday, August 22, and run to 10 p.m. Admission is $5. It will be chamber appreciation night, with each member of the Martinsville-Henry County Chamber of Commerce receiving two free tickets.

"We are always looking for great new ways to showcase our facility and what better way than a fun time on a Friday evening after long week of work," said Martinsville Speedway President Clay Campbell. "The Plaza is a great location for an event like this. We believe it's going to be an incredible fun time for everyone."

The Plaza is located left on Speedway Boulevard overlooking the speedway.

The featured band will be Project 4, a Roanoke-based band which has played in pre-race at Martinsville Speedway several times. The popular group mixes smooth harmonies and great musicianship, and no genre of music is off limits. From classic funk, to the Beatles, to Crosby, Still and Nash, to popular rock and country, Project 4 plays it all. And the fun-factor with one of their shows is high.

"After working at Martinsville Speedway for several of the races, we are very excited about being the inaugural band for the track's Party In The Plaza," said Kent Martin, guitarist and lead vocalist for Project 4. "We hope to see everyone out there for a great time. It's always fun coming to Martinsville."

Amanda Witt, president of the Martinsville-Henry County Chamber of Commerce, said it was an easy decision to sponsor with the inaugural Party In The Plaza at Martinsville Speedway.

"The Martinsville-Henry County Chamber of Commerce is excited to partner with Martinsville Speedway on its first concert event at the new Party Plaza," said Witt. "This is a chance for us to show appreciation to our members and promote the many events the speedway hosts for our community year-round."

Tickets will go on sale Monday and may be purchased by calling 276.956.7200 or by stopping by the Martinsville Speedway ticket office. Tickets will also be on sale the evening of the event.
