Meet Craig "Rocky" Rockwell

Meet a Martinsville Insider, Craig Rockwell. Known to most of his friends and acquaintances as "Rocky", he is the Operations Project Manager of Philpott Lake for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. With a huge heart for his community and great sense of humor, Rocky devotes much of his free time to volunteering with area groups, working on his impersonation skills of the famed explorer William Clark and paddling Philpott Lake and the Smith River. Here are his tips for enjoying Martinsville-Henry County, Virginia. 

Where do you enjoy sports and recreation?

"I enjoy golfing at Bassett Country Club Golf Course and Gordon Trent Golf Course."


What is the best-kept secret in Martinsville-Henry County?

"My wife's cupcakes! The Artisan Center is also a neat place to visit."


Rocky Rockwell as William ClarkWhat is the most interesting tidbit about Philpott Lake?

"We have an awesome interpretive center inside our Visitor Center that many people don't know about."  The museum at Philpott Lake is open seven days a week and often features free educational programs and Ranger talks for weekend visitors. What are your top Martinsville-Henry County dining spots and why?

"Checkered Pig, formerly Pigs R Us, has great food and good people and Bojangles has great chicken and biscuits. It's always Bo-Time!"
