Meet Drew Powell

Meet a Martinsville Insider, Drew Powell.  A Louisiana native, Powell traveled 18 hours to play with our Martinsville Mustangs this summer and has lived in the area with a host family for the past twelve weeks. He is the closing pitcher and was named "Pitcher of the Year" for our Mustangs.  He attends a small school, Southern University, in Baton Rouge and hopes to continue his baseball career after he graduates in May.  Here are Drew's tips for enjoying Martinsville-Henry County, Virginia.

What are your top Martinsville-Henry County dining spots and why?

"Bojangles is always a favorite because we don't have that at home.  It is one of the few restaurants that has spiciness compared to what we have in Louisiana.  We also love going to Applebees and Wild Magnolia after our home games because the food is delicious and the service is always great."

What has been your favorite activity you've done since you've been here?

"Well, other than baseball, I've really enjoyed getting to know the people around town at the different events we've attended such as meeting with the Boys and Girls Club over at Hooker Field.  The team and I have also had the opportunity to meet the mayor and other dignitaries from this community, which was an awesome experience."

What do you and your teammates do in your free time?

"Most of the guys go to Gym 24 almost daily and Baseball Heaven is another great place for us to go and practice hitting."
