Meet Liz Secrest

Meet a Martinsville Insider: Liz Secrest. As the Assistant Director of Martinsville Uptown, Liz is involved in pulling together some of our area's fun seasonal events such as the TGIF Summer Concert Series, Oktoberfest International Music & Arts Festival and Martinsville Uptown's Holiday Open House. Liz and her husband were both raised in Martinsville-Henry County and are now raising a daughter here as well. Here are her tips for enjoying the community...

Where do you take friends and family when they come to town?

"For a great meal, or for the nightlife, we usually take visitors to Wild Magnolia in the Patrick Henry Mall. It is a great place to socialize, especially after a Mustangs game or TGIF concert. If the visit is during the summer, we like to take advantage of the Smith River Sports Complex. My daughter loves the playground and the track is very nice to walk."

Where do you go to enjoy sports and recreation?

"My family does a lot of four-wheeling, so we enjoy the Outdoorsman Park (a.k.a. The Catfish Pond) off of Dyers Store Road. They have great ATV trails! We also enjoy the Mustangs' games."

What places do your kids like to visit?

"My daughter is two, so any of our great parks satisfy here! She loves the Smith River Sports Complex & Jack Dalton Park the most. We are looking forward to taking her to Fairystone State Park as well this spring, because she loves the water!"

What is the best-kept secret in Martinsville-Henry County?

"The best-kept secret is the people! There are some amazingly, talented and educated people in this area and I think that sometimes gets looked over because we are from a small town."

What are your top Martinsville-Henry County dining spots and why?

"Fenderz has amazing burgers and fries! Clarence's Steakhouse is a great place when you are craving good old-fashioned plate dinners! Wild Magnolia has delicious cheesecake with caramel sauce! And you can't beat Elizabeth's Pizza for their pizza!"
