Pig Cookin’ Contest at Spencer Penn Centre
The Spencer Penn Centre announces its 7th annual Pig Cookin’ contest on April 14th from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. with FREE admission!
For the past six years, 1,400 to 1,700 guests from the area as well as North Carolina have come to enjoy the day in Spencer, Virginia. Pig cookin’ competitors from all over Virginia and North Carolina will follow the rules of the North Carolina Pork Association for the cookin’. Trophies, cash and points will be awarded to the top three placements. Those points will transfer to the North Carolina State completion.
Competitors will be introduced during Music Night on April 13th and at 9:00 p.m. then will retreat to their tents to begin preparing their porkers. Up until that time, the competitors will be available during music night to meet and talk with the public. They love to talk about cooking pork, but don’t expect them to reveal any of their cooking secrets! Sandwiches and plates will be available for purchase to eat-in or take-out on Saturday. One-pound BBQ tubs will be available for take-out after the judging, as well.
