Quilt and Textile Exhibit Closing December 30 at Piedmont Arts

Piedmont Arts’ exhibits, Needle & Thread, featuring work by Linda Fiedler and Page Turner, and Studio Group of Rockingham County, will come to a close on Saturday, December 30 at 3 pm.

“We’ve had a wonderful reception for these exhibits,” said Director of Marketing, Communications and Design Bernadette Moore. “Linda’s quilts have really brightened up the galleries for the holiday season. We’ve had around 2,500 visitors during the exhibits and we hope everyone will bring their families and friends to view these beautiful works over the holidays.”

In honor of the closing of Needle & Thread and Studio Group of Rockingham County a special event, Art @ Happy Hour, will be held at the museum on Thursday, December 14 from 5 – 7 pm.

“This is the last event for these exhibits,” said Moore. “Both Linda and Page will lead a gallery talk during Art @ Happy Hour, so it’s a great chance to learn about the works from the artists themselves. Art @ Happy Hour is always free of charge and there will be complimentary beverages and snacks available.”

An award-winning quilt maker from Meadows of Dan, Virginia, Fiedler has won national and international awards for her quilts and quilted clothing, which have appeared in such prestigious shows as the Fairfield Fashion Show and Hobb’s Fashion Show in Paducah, Kentucky. Fiedler’s quilts also hang in private and corporate collections throughout the country. For the past 20 years, she has curated The Art of the Quilt, a biennial quilt exhibition at Piedmont Arts.

Turner is an assemblage artist who collects items of deep personal meaning and painstakingly creates delicate objects that honor the feminine. Her work is grounded in the Appalachian region of Virginia. She was born in Roanoke, deep in the heart of the Blue Ridge Mountains, and lives and works there today. Her powerful assemblages include found objects, such as fur, wood, shells, paper and bone, that firmly position her work culturally and geographically in this region.

Studio Group of Rockingham County, featuring work by the 22 members of the North Carolina-based arts group, is on display in the Lynwood Artists Gallery.
