Rooster Walk 6 Band Lineup Part 3

The Rooster Walk Music and Arts Festival is a charity fundraiser that takes place every Memorial Day weekend (late May) at Blue Mountain Festival Grounds just outside of Martinsville. The festival, which features on-site camping, as well as arts, crafts, food and more, donates its proceeds to the Penn-Shank Memorial Scholarship at Martinsville High School. When you come out to Rooster Walk 6, be sure to bring the entire family. Rooster Walk provides a kids' area with face painting, crafts, nature walks, a play area and more for the kids to enjoy!

Each week, we will be featuring different bands that will be performing at Rooster Walk 6. This is part 3 in the blog series. Read the other sections: part 1 | part 2.

Here are some of the awesome bands that you can enjoy at Rooster Walk 6!

Tim O'Brien & Darrell Scott

Tim O'Brien & Darrell Scott

Highly regarded writer/singer/multi-instrumentalists Tim O'Brien and Darrell Scott will perform at Rooster Walk 6 this spring in support of their new album, Memories & Moments. Back in 2000, O'Brien and Scott had joined forces to record the deep and scintillating Real Time, which was widely acclaimed on release and has since become recognized as a towering achievement in Americana annals. O'Brien and Scott became an in-demand touring act, hitting the road together whenever their schedules allowed. Over the ensuing years, each has been asked incessantly when their paths would next cross. Indeed, the prospect of a Real Time Redux has come to take on an almost mythic significance in roots-music circles.

Particle

Particle

Along with The Disco Biscuits and Sound Tribe Sector 9, Particle was among the first to blend rock, jazz, funk, and electronica into the milieu of what has been dubbed "jamtronica" or "livetronica." The group has made a name for itself and built an enthusiastic fan base (known as Particle People) by performing energetic late-night sets at festivals such as Bonnaroo. Founding member Steve Molitz remains the band leader, and joining him for Particle's first national tour since more or less 2007 are later-era guitarist/singer Ben Combe and two new Particle members, drummer Brandon Draper and bassist Clay Parnell.

Sanctum Sully

Sanctum Sully

The boys of Sanctum Sully hail from Asheville, N.C., but their music comes from a different space: the beer-stained bar stools where blues, rock and bluegrass swap stories and trade tall-tale tunes. A polished five-piece acoustic unit that's been voted one of Western North Carolina's top three bluegrass bands for three years running, the members of Sanctum Sully grew up as fans of numerous genres before ultimately joining forces in 2008. With three-part harmonies, mandolin, guitar, banjo and bass, Sanctum Sully can certainly pull off a traditional bluegrass tune in style. They are a bluegrass band that rocks ... hard.

After Jack

After Jack

After Jack may be a "new band with an old soul," but they have already achieved a great deal since their debut in fall 2011. Mary Allison, Rachel Blankenship and Emily Rose Tucker combine to play 14 instruments, and they met while working as professional actor/musicians. Inspired by bluegrass, rock, gospel, blues, folk, country and everything in between, this Virginia based lady trio joined forces to create a sound driven by tight harmonies, eclectic musicianship and a certain "je ne sais quoi," leading to a fusion of genres that provides a fresh take on the multifaceted music of the mountains.

Major & the Monbacks

Major & the Monbacks

The Monbacks are fresh out of college, exploding into the East Coast music scene with two solid years of touring in their back pocket, wielding an original blend of retro R&B, 60's twang and new school garage-pop jams. The Monbacks have reached "monback mania" status in their hometown of Norfolk, self-releasing a 5 song EP and 2 singles while playing shows, festivals, and colleges across the East Coast and packing out every major venue in Norfolk.
