Sports Complex to Host Relay for Life

The Relay For Life of Martinsville and Henry County will hold their next event at the Smith River Sports Complex (SRSC) in the summer of 2013. The Relay For Life is set for June 14-15, 2013, beginning at 6 p.m. and lasting until 6 a.m.

This past year, the Relay for Life was hosted at Fieldale-Collinsville Middle School.

“The Executive Committee of the Relay For Life of Martinsville and Henry County is excited about partnering with the Sports Complex in the Fight Against Cancer.   Our hope is to extend our reach within the community by moving our event to a larger complex which will enable more feet around the track to include an increase in participants, teams, caregivers and cancer patients and survivors; what better way to achieve this dream than to move to the beautiful Sports Complex of Martinsville.  We are excited about the numerous possibilities this move will allow,” said Robin Minter, American Cancer Society’s Community Manager.

“We are proud to have the opportunity to host Relay For Life at the Smith River Sports Complex,” said Amanda Gray, Director of Marketing and Public Relations for the SRSC.  “We look forward to partnering with the American Cancer Society to produce an event where the community can come show their support for such a meaningful cause.”

Relay For Life is an event that gives everyone in communities across the globe a chance to celebrate the lives of people who have battled cancer, remember loved ones lost, and fight back against the disease.  At Relay, teams of people camp out at a local high school, park, or fairground and take turns walking or running around a track of path.  Because cancer never sleeps, Relays are overnight events up to 12 hours in length.  Relayers do not have to walk all night, but each team is asked to have a representative on the track at all times during the event.

The American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life Committee would like to extend an invitation to community to join us in the fight against cancer.  For more information please call 866-638-8944.
