TheatreWorks Community Players Receives Tourism Marketing Grant

The Martinsville-Henry County EDC’s Tourism Division recently awarded a tourism marketing grant to the TheatreWorks Community Players, a community theatre troupe with more than 10 years of performances in Uptown Martinsville.

TheatreWorks Community Players formed in 2004 and has since put on over 40 shows including the wildly popular “Les Miserables”, “9-5”, “A Raisin in the Sun”, “Hairspray,” “The Wiz,” “An Evening of Carol Burnett” and more.

TheatreWorks applied for a Tourism Marketing Grant from the EDC to acquire matching funds to market their shows at the BlackBox Theatre with a new website and logo. The grant program funds 50% of approved marketing project costs up to $1,000.

According to Beth Stinnett, Interim Director of Tourism for Martinsville-Henry County, “We’re delighted to help TheatreWorks obtain a new website through our marketing grant program. TheatreWorks Community Players have continuously entertained audiences of community members as well as out of town visitors, and having a strong online presence is essential in today’s marketing environment.”

The website, along with a new logo, were designed locally by Jay and John Franck of Chatmoss Web Systems with help from TheatreWorks Marketing Co-Chair Cari Zimmer.

Zimmer says, “We are so grateful to have received a $1000 grant from the Martinsville Henry County Tourism Division.  It has been used to assist us in the cost of branding TheatreWorks Community Players and creating a new, interactive website.  Patrons may now access information, purchase tickets, and sign-up for volunteer jobs on all devices from laptops to tablets to phones.  It is our hope that through this new connectivity and identity we will be able to reach new members of the community and beyond to participate in the theatre on stage, behind the scenes, or as a member of the audience.”
