Turn 5 Organizers To Donate $10,000 From Concert Proceeds

Organizers of the Turn 5 Concert series will donate a total of $10,000 from proceeds raised by the event, which took place Friday and Saturday near Martinsville Speedway.

The two-night concert was organized by the Martinsville-based nonprofit Rooster Walk Inc., which is dedicated to promoting music, art and education through music. Organizers will donate $5,000 to the Martinsville Speedway Children's Foundation, $4,000 to the Penn-Shank Memorial Scholarship Fund at Martinsville High School and $1,000 to the Patrick Henry Community College motorsports program, which provided volunteers to help staff both nights of the event.

"Despite some unseasonably cold weather, the second annual Turn 5 Concert Series was a great success," said William Baptist, a co-founder of Rooster Walk Inc. "We'd like to thank all of our sponsors, volunteers and staff, plus the six great bands that performed. This event truly was a community effort, and we feel blessed to get all the wonderful support that we do. A special thank you goes out to students from the PHCC Motorsports program, who did a fantastic job as volunteers at Turn 5."

More than 1,000 people attended over the course of the weekend, despite temperatures that dropped into the mid-20s on Friday. Bands that played were Blackberry Smoke, The Worx, Old Southern Moonshine Revival, Madrone, Tenured Soul and E.T.A.

Turn 5 sponsors included: Blue Ridge Beverage, Miller Lite, Frith Construction, Martinsville Urgent Care, Bassett Furniture, Lester, Carter Bank & Trust, Taco Bell, West Window Corp., Blue Ridge Aquaculture, Daniel's of Eden, Kent Cox of Morgan Stanley, BB&T, Scott & Stringfellow, PMG Outdoor and Martinsville Speedway.

With Turn 5 complete, organizers will turn their attention to the sixth annual Rooster Walk Music & Arts Festival, which is set for May 23-25, 2014 at Blue Mountain Festival Grounds in Snow Creek.
