Ultimate Frisbee Starts SRSC's Season

Without Limits will host the 2015 Commonwealth Cup on Feb. 21-22, at the Smith River Sports Complex (SRSC).  The Commonwealth Cup is the first tournament of the SRSC 2015 season and will bring a total of 22 Ultimate Frisbee teams to the area.  Teams from all over the East Coast and the Midwest will be participating in the competition beginning at 9 a.m. both days. Without Limits also hosts one other Ultimate Frisbee tournament at SRSC: Virginia Fusion 6.0 will play Sept. 12-13. “This year's event will be extremely competitive,” said Tournament Director Michelle Ng.  “The top tier features top-ranked teams like Virginia, Ohio State and Michigan. We also have a number of teams from DC, Virginia, and North Carolina in attendance, and it is a great opportunity to watch these regional teams match up against each other and against other top competition."

According to Ng, one match that may be particularly interesting is Virginia versus Ohio State.

"Top seeds Virginia and Ohio State just faced off last weekend, with Virginia coming away with the tournament victory. Ohio State, last year's national champion, will be looking for another chance to play Virginia at Commonwealth Cup," Ng said.

Spectators can expect to see a number of East Coast teams, both from around the state of Virginia and nearby states, as well as from cities much further away.   The teams competing will come from colleges in Delaware, Florida, Maryland, Massachusetts, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Virginia and Washington, D.C.

"It's Ultimate Frisbee time again and we could not be more excited to welcome Michelle and these ladies to our community," said SRSC Director of Operations Billy Russo. "With several hundred athletes from all over the country in attendance and in our community this weekend we look forward to seeing our hotels, restaurants and other area businesses busy."

The event is free for spectators.
