ValleyStar Credit Union Donates $25,000 to Racing College of Virginia

ValleyStar Credit Union has donated $25,000 to the Racing College of Virginia through the Patrick Henry Community College Foundation. The donation represents a commitment of $5,000 per year over the next five years. The Racing College of Virginia, the motorsports program administered by Patrick Henry Community College in Martinsville, offers certificates and associate degrees in both the technical and business functions of motorsports technology.

"We teach students to do everything but drive the car," said Christopher Parker, Vice President for Institutional Advancement and Campus Life at PHCC. "This donation from ValleyStar Credit Union will assist with the Racing College’s endeavors to be the best motorsports program in the country," he said. "These funds will allow the program to race their late-model car in local races and continue to provide hands-on training to our students."

"Broadening education efforts in our community is part of our core beliefs," said Delbert Lee Morgan, President/CEO of ValleyStar Credit Union. "We’re proud to support the Racing College and its mission through this donation."

The Racing College team participates in local races, racing their own NASCAR late-model race car with students serving as the pit crew. Students that join the motorsports program have come from all areas of Virginia and from far away as Pennsylvania, Maryland, North Carolina, Oregon and Florida. Graduates of the program have landed jobs with NASCAR, Hendrick Motorsports, Kevin Harvick Motorsports, Dale Earnhardt Inc. and many other motorsport companies.
